TV Ratings: Nine comes out on top in tight contest with Seven

Border Security – Australia’s Front Line on was the top rated entertainment offering last night but the bush fires continued to bolster the news.

Nine News, which had rolling coverage of the fires on Wednesday, again earned the top spot with 1.128 million viewers.

Seven News sat in second with 1.095 million viewers while the ABC News had an audience of 906,000.

Ten News at Five rounded off the top 10 with 675,000 viewers as news and current affairs took out seven of the top spots.

As a result Border Security sat in sixth with 826,000 viewers.

Two episodes of Nine’s The Big Bang Theory also earned spots within the top 10. Episode one pulled in an audience of 816,000 as more than 750,000 viewers stayed tuned to the evening’s second installment of the American sitcom.

Seven’s drama Grimm (448,000) was beaten in the 8.30 timeslot by Nine’s broadcast of movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding on 665,000.

The contest between Nine and Seven was tight as Nine narrowly beat Seven’s overall free-to-air audience share of 28.9% with its share of 29%.

The ABC came third with 18.6%, followed by Ten with 15.8% and SBS on 7.7%.
