Speed on the red carpet at the ARIAs.

With Nine’s The Block and Seven’s My Kitchen Rules done and dusted for the year and the sport yet to kick off, there’s a decidedly quieter vibe to the TV ratings for a little while.

Yesterday’s top raters overall were Seven News and 9News – total TV reach: 1.931 million and 1.77 million, respectively; average audiences 1.183 million and 1.054 million.

As ever, Home and Away drew a strong crowd for Seven with a total TV reach of 1.42 million and an average audience of 792,000.

However, the most interesting story might be found on Nine’s scheduling last night. Taronga: Who’s Who In The Zoo was its top-rating entertainment show with a total TV reach of 1.229 million, it was closely followed by Nine’s coverage of the ARIAs, which had a total reach of 1.209 million. Impressive stuff.

Until you look at the scheduling and the average audience. Taronga was on directly before the ARIAs. It had an average audience of 501,000. The ARIAs’ average was less than half that. Remember that viewers only need to watch a minute before registering on the total TV reach metric.

Anyway, Shark Tank was 10’s top-rater with a total TV reach of 774,000 and an average audience of 318,000.

The ABC’s Hard Quiz and Question Everything performed admirably, too. Hard Quiz pulled in a total TV reach of 898,000 and an average audience of 652,000. Question Everything drew a total TV reach of 836,000 and an average audience of 531,000.
