Triple J Announces Dates And New Partnership For 2022’s Hottest 100

That’s right, kids, the world’s biggest music democracy is back for another year, with voting for triple j’s Hottest 100 opening on Tuesday 14 December at 8am AEDT.
The Hottest 100 will be held Saturday 22 January 2022, and will be the youth radio station’s 29th annual countdown, not including its occasional ‘All Time’ one-offs.
While it’s a massive nationwide party, the 2022 countdown is also encouraging listeners and music nerds alike to reflect on why music has been so important during these recent difficult times.
“Music has been a massive comfort during 2021. It’s kept us connected to each other and it’s been an important reminder that good times were ahead,” Triple J content director, Laura McAuliffe, told B&T.
“Like many people and industries around the world, our favourite musicians have endured two impossibly difficult years. But they’ve still managed to bring joy to our lives with their music and we can’t thank them enough for that!”
However, suicide remained the biggest killer of young Australians in 2021, accounting for over one-third of all deaths among 15-24-year-olds. In fact, Lifeline received more calls this year than ever before. Unfortunately, the non-for-profit is still unable to take every call.
As such, Triple J will be partnering with Lifeline to give back to the important non-for-profit, with the youth station encouraging listeners this year to donate directly to Lifeline or purchase a Hottest 100 x Lifeline t-shirt.
“We know that suicide is the leading cause of death for young people, and the triple j audience have told us time and time again that mental health is one of the biggest issues affecting their lives,” said McAuliffe.
“We’re proud to partner with Lifeline, the leading provider of crisis support and suicide prevention in Australia.
“When donating to Lifeline, your money goes toward training crucial volunteers who are there to listen, provide connection, compassion and hope. These donations have the power to save lives.”
This year, Triple J will also be pre-partying with its Hottest 200 countdown of numbers 200-101 on Friday 21 January.
The celebrated annual countdown will then be bookended by sister station, Double J’s Hottest 100 of 2001 on Sunday 23 January.
