Study: Only 6% of Aussies Trust Social Media With Their Data

MoneyTransfers.com analysed the latest data from YouGov, finding that only 6 per cent of Aussies trust social media companies with their personal data.

The data established which countries trusted social media with their personal data and which countries trusted social media the least with their data.

Data and market research firm, YouGov surveyed up to 2,251 individuals (adults 18+) in each of the 17 included countries: United Kingdom, United States, China, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, India, Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

In each of the respective countries, those surveyed were simply asked: “Do you trust social media companies with your personal data?”

The figures provided in the final results/data table is the % of those surveyed in each respective country who do trust social media companies with their personal data.

The Results

  • Poland: 32 per cent
  • India: 16 per cent
  • Germany: 12 per cent
  • Indonesia: 12 per cent
  • United Arab Emirates: 11 per cent
  • China: 8 per cent
  • Mexico: 7 per cent
  • Spain: 6 per cent
  • Australia: 6 per cent
  • Hong Kong: 6 per cent
  • United States: 4 per cent
  • France: 4 per cent
  • Denmark: 4 per cent
  • Sweden: 4 per cent
  • Singapore: 4 per cent
  • United Kingdom: 3 per cent
  • Italy: 3 per cent

Australia came in 7th place, with only 6 per cent of Australians trusting social media companies with their personal data.
