Report: Complaints Into Aussie Telco Services Dip, But It’s Bad News For iiNet & Optus

New research has revealed that while the number of new complaints received by Aussie telecommunications providers dropped in FY16 overall, iiNet and Optus has seen their complaint numbers rise significantly.

According to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman’s annual report for 2015-16, Aussie telcos received a total of 112,518 new complaints – down 9.6 per cent from the previous financial year.

The report showed that iiNet recorded the biggest increase in new complaints of all of Australia’s five major telecommunications service providers, up 48.2 per cent to 5,698 complaints.

Optus was hit with 21,992 complaints in FY2016, an increase of 18.2 per cent on the previous financial year.

The number of new complaints rose by 7.4 per cent for TPG to 4,836 for the period.

Meanwhile, Vodafone saw its number of new complaints fall by a whopping 59.5 per cent to 7,830 in 2015-16 – the biggest decline by any of the five major telcos.

The report showed that Telstra also experienced a decline in new complaints last financial year, down 3.2 per cent to 53,731 complaints.
