Podcast Ranker: News Podcasts Surge Ahead On The Back Of Spotify’s Daily Drive Playlist

Australia’s top three most popular podcasts for the period of 20 January to 16 February were all new to Triton’s Australian Podcast Ranker.

Stuff You Should Know by ARN/iHeartMedia topped the list, followed by From The Newsroom by News Corp Australia and My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark by Stitcher.

With the radio networks bringing back their top talent after the summer break, Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty took fourth spot while The Kyle & Jackie O Show (ARN/iHeartMedia) was fifth.

Schwartz Media’s 7am jumped 11 spots to take out sixth spot.

The latest Triton ratings mark the first since Spotify launched its new playlist Your Daily Drive, which combines personalised music with news shows and podcasts.

With both The Newsroom and 7am included as part of the playlist, it is likely Spotify’s latest innovation is helping these publishers grow their reach.

The Top 100 podcasts in this reporting period account for 16.2M downloads in total.

Participating publishers in the Australian Ranker include Southern Cross Austereo, News Corp Australia, Nova, Schwartz Media, TOFOP Productions, SEN / Crocmedia, The Parent Brand, Australian Radio Network, and Nine Radio, ARN/iHeartMedia and Stitcher.
