Optus is proudly partnering with the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2023, to bring speed, excitement, celebrity, and technology trackside, to one of Australia’s favourite sporting events.
With Optus customers already enjoying Australia’s Fastest 5G mobile network for download speeds (as awarded by Opensignal), Optus is excited to be bringing this technology trackside with an action-packed line-up of activities for customers and event visitors alike.
Optus, the Australian Grand Prix, and Supercar team Mobil 1 Optus Racing will collaborate on a range of activities to surprise and delight customers and fans throughout the event. This includes the OPTU5G VR Track Tour, as well as opportunities to engage with Optus’ Chief of Optimism Daniel Riccardo and Mobil 1 Optus Racing driver and current Supercars Championship leader Chaz Mostert.
The Optus partnership with the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix™ 2023 will leverage in-event and F1® precinct branding and engagement opportunities with a bespoke Optus pit-lane suite. As a Major Partner, Optus will also showcase the OPTU5G VR Track Tour, which provides fans on the ground with the chance to jump in the driver’s seat with Optus’ Chief of Optimism Daniel Ricciardo and take a virtual tour and fly over of Albert Park.
Optus’ chief of optimism, Daniel Ricciardo, said:
“It’s always great to be back home in Australia. It’ll be the first race I’ve attended in the 2023 season, and I’m excited to be back in the Red Bull Racing garage in my new role. I’ve been spending time in the simulator back in the UK so I’m looking forward to seeing the car in action.
“I have a busy weekend getting stuck in with the team on everything from engineering to activations. I’ll also be spending some time with Optus as their Chief of Optimism, meeting some of their new faces and key customers, and planning our activities for the year ahead. I’m also delighted to be the main man behind the OPTU5G VR Track Tour – an immersive virtual tour of Albert Park, located in the Fan Zone – it’s sure to be an adrenaline rush for the senses!”
Australian Grand Prix Corporation, general manager, sales and commercial, Darian Misko said:
“We’re excited to team up with Optus once again in 2023 to provide fans with an exhilarating virtual reality experience that will get them as close to driving an F1® car as possible, with none other than Daniel Ricciardo cheering them on.”
“Fans will be able to soak in the entirety of Albert Park while driving at extreme speeds, making for an unforgettable event.”
Optus, managing director, marketing and revenue, Matt Williams said:
“At Optus, we’re all about bringing our customers fast speeds, which is why we’re thrilled to be partnering with the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix™ 2023.
“Just like our 5G network, Daniel and Chaz embody the Optus ethos of speed, innovation and performance which makes them the perfect partners to work with on this grand-scale racing event in Melbourne.
“In addition to all the exciting activities set to take place in the lead up to the event, we’re also showcasing our Optus 5G on the track, using VR technology with the OPTU5G VR Track Tour.
“Optus is planning an experience like no other for fans that will be sure to wow the crowds and leave a lasting impression, building on its ambition to become Australia’s most loved everyday brand with lasting customer relationships.”
In addition, Optus will launch a major integrated campaign around the F1. This will include broadcast advertising on Channel 10 and Fox Sports featuring Optus chief of optimism Daniel Ricciardo and Mobil 1 Optus Racing driver Chaz Mostert; high impact out-of-home placements around Melbourne CBD promoting the Optus 5G network, advertising through Melbourne airport and across Optus branded retail stores, and having run an F1 ticket giveaway in the My Optus app.
