The role of a designer in the media and technology space can be a complex one.
Often it is about maximising the customer experience, while in other scenarios it can be focussed on visual storytelling.
For Domain Group product writer Julia Carter, it’s all about ensuring every product in the group sounds as human as possible.
Initially hired in March 2018 to execute on UX copy across every scrum team in the business, Carter soon set out to establish Domain’s very own Product Language Database, which brings together voice, tone and language guidelines for the company.
Early last year, Carter undertook the challenging task of expressing Domain Group’s purposed and values. This has since been used to inform the business, product, marketing and tech strategies.
She has also worked to transform some of Domain’s editorial material into engaging visual content.
In October 2019 she worked with a product designer to transform a study on the most liveable cities in Australia into an engaging social media quiz.
By keeping users entertained and informed, the quiz Carter created outperformed previous studies by 75 per cent in terms of users and achieved an engagement rate of 72 per cent.
Julia Carter is a finalist in this year’s Women Leading Tech awards. Keep reading B&T to learn more about all of our fantastic finalists before the event gets underway this September.
