A TV anchor for WOOD-TV, a broadcaster in Michigan in the US, is making headlines after an angry viewer labelled her a “whore” in an email and then outed himself after he provided his name, address and telephone number.
Reporter Whitney Burney tweeted the strange note she got from a local doctor telling her that her makeup made her look like a “whore.”
The email read: “if (sic) you are the anchor right now on Wood tv8 (sic) this is for you. If not, and I can’t tell for sure, please disregard and forward to whomever is the anchor. Your makeup makes you look like a whore. Do yourself a favor and clean up.” The angry Doc then signed the email and included his address and phone number.
WOOD-TV has several Black female anchors, so it appears that the doctor couldn’t tell the difference between them. What many found the most shocking, however, is that the man felt comfortable enough to include all of his personal details too.
Burney took to social media to describe the incident, but appeared to see the funny side adding a “LMAO”. The anchor also posting a stunning photo of herself in work attire and make-up, at the same time outing the angry doctor too.
This latest incident follows on from news last month of another US TV anchor who was criticised for being “too Asian”.
On 1 January, Michelle Li (pictured below), who works for KSDK in St Louis, shared what she’d eaten on the first day of the year during a segment about commonly eaten New Year’s foods.
After listing greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread and pork as popular dishes, Li concluded the segment explaining that she ate dumpling soup because “that’s what a lot of Korean people do”.
Following the segment, Li shared audio of a phone call from an upset viewer who criticised her for sharing the details about her own New Year’s Day traditions and claimed that it was not “appropriate”.
The female viewer said she was calling because the outlet’s “Asian anchor mentioned something about being Asian and Asian people eat dumplings on New Year’s Day” during her report.

“I kind of take offence to that because what if one of your white anchors said: ‘Well, white people eat this on New Year’s Day,’” the anonymous individual continued, adding that she didn’t think it was “appropriate” for Li to share the information.
The woman then went on to claim that Li was being “very Asian,” before stating that the news anchor can “keep her Korean to herself”.
The woman concluded: “If a white person would say that, they would get fired.”
