British celebrity chef and good food activist Jamie Oliver will be setting up NSW’s first Ministry of Food Centre at the Stockland Wetherill Park Shopping Centre.
The community-focused food centre will teach basic cooking skills to members of the public and encourage healthy eating habits by inspiring confidence in the kitchen.
“I am so excited that the Ministry of Food is growing and expanding into Western Sydney in New South Wales. This will be our fifth Ministry of Food Kitchen in Australia, following the strong interest we have seen in both Queensland and Victoria. Australia is truly leading the way when it comes to using food education to tackle the problems of diet-related disease – it's a really positive move in the right direction and something all countries around the world should take note of ," said Oliver.
John Schroder, Stockland CEO Commercial property, said that he was thrilled to be getting behind this program, stating that The Good Food Foundation does fantastic work which puts “a strong emphasis on healthy living and healthy meals.”
As part of the announcement, newly appointed Jamie’s ministry of Food Ambassador and TV identity, Lisa Wilkinson, will host a cook-along the shopping centre, with Oliver live from his kitchen in London.
