As the old adage goes, if you’re onto a good thing then stick with it. Yet, that certainly wasn’t the case for men’s budget grooming range Old Spice after it ditched Isiah Mustaf following his legendary appearance in some of the best ads ever made in the history of ads way back in 2010.
Mercifully, common sense appears to have prevailed and Mustaf (now 45 and still looking damn fit) is back in a new series of spots aimed at a new generation of pongy teens and 20-somethings
Continuing a similar schtick to the originals, Mustaf fronts a trio of ads as he explains the merits of the Old Spice range to his son (who’s not actually his son but actor Keith Powers).
Tagged “Smell like your own man, man” the ads are the work of fabled agency Wieden + Kennedy and, although great, admittedly aren’t up to the standard of the original gems. And that’s despite Mustaf recreating his legendary “I’m on a horse” pose.
