Leigh Sale’s 7.30 interview with Prime Minister Scott Morrison is going viral for how tense it was!
As the election approaches, we are beginning to see both Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese suddenly appear everywhere. Hence ScoMo is trading barbs with Kochie, and Albo heading onto the Kyle and Jackie O Show.
So, naturally, Morrison sat down with the Queen of political interviews, Leigh Sales, to assumedly win over voters.
However, Sales didn’t go easy on The Prime Minister, and she asked him about everything from rumours he was a bully to Gladys Berejiklian.
Sales even said: “Let me put it to you, that there can only be one factor that’s playing into the negative sentiment towards your coalition and that without sounding rude has to be you?”
Naturally, Morrison disagreed with that observation, but it made for some must-see television. While the whole interview was pretty tense viewing, it was the ending that packed the most punch.
Sales said: “Prime Minister, every election campaign for the past 27 years that this show has been on, both leaders have done a couple of prime time interviews.
“I’ve already invited Mr Albanese, and he agreed. Would you be happy to do a couple of interviews?”
Morrison responded and said: “We will appear on the ABC and everybody’s programs over the course of the campaign, and we’ve always made ourselves pretty available.”
Sales replied with, “That’s not a direct answer. Will you do two interviews at 7.30?”
The Prime Minister said: “It’s not about 7.30, it’s about the Australian people, and we’ll make ourselves available to the ABC and all the networks,’’
“I don’t think the major issue people are thinking about is the 7.30. Not at all.”
Naturally, Twitter went wild over the interview.
“Oh come on!” Says @leighsales
“I always stood up to the factions. I am the Prime Minister https://t.co/rfANf5LWby

What about his claim he hadn’t been to Hillsong for 15 years despite being shown in a photo there in 2019…that’s another blatant lie ..and @leighsales let him get away with it ,plus the govt .help for bushfire victims ,or lack there off…no mention of that..

Leigh Sales reels off a long list of people who have criticised Morrison’s character. He brushes it all off. What a gaslighting liar #abc730 pic.twitter.com/9ATZQ974HN

Shorter #abc730:
Leigh Sales: “Your colleagues hate your guts, you’re absolutely despised, you have no friends, surely this reflects on you.”

Sales’ interview was another prime example of her ability to get politicians away from their rehearsed talking points.
