The Manly Sea Eagles had a roaring start to the 2023 season, but with the loss of playmaker Tom “Turbo” Trbojevic to a shoulder injury in round 11, they commenced their fall from grace, finishing in 12th position for the first year with new coach Anthony Seibold.
Welcome back to B&T’s Spotlight on Sponsors series, where we unpack all the major sponsorship news from each NRL and AFL team in the lead-up to the new season.
With Turbo back in action, a third Trbojevic in the mix and new signings from the Tigers and Roosters, Manly seem well-placed to secure their position in the finals series. But with the future of some of their significant sponsors uncertain, will Manly get a chance to take a stab at the premiership in 2024?
B&T has all the latest on sponsors from inside the Manly Sea Eagles camp.
PointsBet
In 2021, betting company PointsBet signed a deal with the Manly Sea Eagles that saw them become a major partner until the end of 2025. The deal included incentivising the Club to make more finals, including a $500,000 bonus for each Premiership won over the term.
The multi-year deal sees the PointsBet logo in prime position on the front of the player’s jerseys throughout the term of the agreement. However, with the government pushing ahead with plans to crack down on gambling advertising, including banning front-of-jersey sponsorships, Manly may face difficulty meeting the terms of their agreement with PointsBet.
Shaw and Partners
Shaw and Partners first signed on with Manly as a premier partner back in 2018, and ever since, the brokerage firm’s logo has appeared on the sternum and sleeve of players’ jerseys.
The Sydney-based firm’s relationship with the club includes exclusive naming rights to the Chairman’s Club at the Sea Eagles’ home ground, Brookvale Oval. It is also deeply engrained in several community outreach and charity programs, including the Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf Series that featured several Manly players this year.
4 Pines Brewing Co.
In 2021, Manly signed on 4 Pines Brewing Co. as a brand new home ground naming rights partner, continuing their relationship with the brewery that had existed since 2019. 4 Pines also supports several community initiatives, including “Tries 4 Trees”, which saw 100 trees planted for every try scored by the club.
“Much like the Sea Eagles, 4 Pines was born and bred in Manly and we share a passion to welcome the community into our spaces to connect and have fun,” said Todd Atkinson, 4 Pines chief operating officer at the time the deal was penned. “We’re going to double down on making a positive community impact with one of the great community grounds in the game”.
