Moving Out Of Home To Outer Space: PepsiCo Signs On For ‘Orbital Billboards’

The out of home ads of the future will replace billboards with rocketships if one Russian ad agency has its way.

‘Orbital display’ company StartRocket wants to take advertising into space and it now has its first client.

It plans to project enormous advertisements into the night sky by launching clusters of CubeSats (miniaturised satellites) into orbit.

Announced earlier this year, the company states the billboard’s potential audience coverage is seven billion people – the entire global population.

And while it all might sound a little far-fetched, food and beverage multinational PepsiCo is on board, with the company planning an orbital campaign for its energy drink Adrenaline Rush next year.

“We believe in StartRocket potential,” a PepsiCo spokesperson told Futurism.

“Orbital billboards are the revolution on the market of communications.

“That’s why on behalf of Adrenaline Rush — PepsiCo Russia energy non-alcoholic drink, which is brand innovator, and supports everything new, and non-standard — we agreed on this partnership.”

StartRocket plans to launch its system into orbit by 2021.

    1. This sort of advertising should be illegal. People look to the sky for solace and guidance, not to be abused by advertisers. Its nothing more than litter.
