The Socceroos squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been revealed in a film starring actor Firass Dirani.
Delivering a three-minute monologue, Dirani talks about Australia’s World Cup teams of the past and how the players have overcome individual challenges, ranging from leaving home at 14 to fleeing warzones to start a new life in Australia.
“It’s been a unique and difficult qualification campaign and we now arrive in Qatar with an exciting squad which will do everything to make Australia proud on the world stage.”
Dirani said of his involvement in the film: “I was more than happy to be part of the squad announcement, to celebrate the boys, and support their journey to Qatar for the World Cup.“
The film also promotes the #GiveIt100 campaign, marking 100 years since the formation of the Australian national team.
The team are due to play their first game on 23 November against France. Kick off is a delightful 6 am Sydney time.
