“Should Be Ashamed!” Lisa Wilkinson Slammed For Making Light Of Ukraine War

Lisa Wilkinson is being slammed for making a light-hearted joke about how Ukraine and Russia could resolve their differences.

Wilkinson was on The Project when she said: “They should just have one game, Russia versus Ukraine, and we can settle a war.” Wilkinson, who then laughed, quipped that the two nations should settle things with a football match.

Her co-hosts laughed along with her, but her off the cuff remark caught the attention of Twitter.

The Herald Sun reported that Wilkinson then apologised for her comments via Instagram and wrote, “My sincere apologies. It was not meant to offend … and I hope the many, many other comments I have made over the last four months have made it clear that my feelings on the tragedy of the despicable acts perpetrated by Russia in this war would make that clear. Again, if not, my sincere apologies for any offence taken. Lisa.”

However, that comment seems to have been deleted.

Obviously, Wilkinson’s joke didn’t quite land, but in fairness to her, she’s been covering the Russia and Ukraine War on The Project for months and has done so with empathy and kindness.
