SBS Upfronts unveils a compelling and courageous content slate for all Australians in 2022 and the network is investing in content and inclusivity big time!
SBS has announced it will bring audiences six new Australian dramas in 2022 – exciting!
To break it down, the network will debut, the crime show True Colours starring Warren H Williams and Rarriway Hick. Dark comedy, A Beginner’s Guide To Grief starring Anna Lindner and the mystery series, In Appetite created by Mohini Herse.
The network will also launch Latecomers, a comedy-drama about living with a disability written and created by Emma Myers, Angus Thompson, and Nina Oyama. Night Bloomers is also set to debut a horror show from Andrew Lee and the legal drama Safe Home is created by Anna Barnes.
Basically, prepare to see all your favourite Australian actors on the small screen.
The network also announced it has exclusive rights to commission the Australian version of worldwide sensation, Alone, and Jess Hill returns with a documentary on consent with Yes, No, Maybe.
Meanwhile, SBS Food is about to be shaken up and will premiere fun new format Dishing It Up, 200 more episodes of The Cook Up with Adam Liaw, and new shows with Dan Hong and Guillaume Brahimi.
Of course, that’s not all! SBS will also launch a sixth free-to-air channel, SBS WorldWatch, providing news in more than 35 languages, in May 2022.
The network also announced a multi-year partnership secured with StudioCanal, the studio that brought us War of the Worlds, Years and Years and ZeroZeroZero.
SBS also pledges it’s further commitment to on- and off-screen diversity with the SBS Commissioning Equity and Inclusion Guidelines, for a more inclusive and equitable sector. Which shall be reflected in its slate of new shows.
SBS Demand will continue to be a focus because the network has over 10 million registered users on SBS On Demand, with exclusive new shows SAS: Rogue Heroes, Django and the return of The Handmaid’s Tale, Atlanta and The Orville.
