Red Bull Puts Skate Park 600 Metres In The Sky

In its latest hair-brained marketing move, Red Bull has suspended a skatepark from a hot air balloon more than 600 metres in the sky and asked a BMX rider to do some tricks.

Scottish BMX pro, Kriss Kyle, took to the sky, performing tricks in the floating skatepark for his latest BMX film.

The energy drink company and Kyle worked together to create the skatepark, which was hewn from the same materials as Red Bull’s Formula 1 cars, allowing it to be suspended from one of the world’s largest hot air balloons.

“In a masterpiece of precision, Kriss uses his unique riding style, quick thinking and years of experience to manoeuvre the compact space, with no room for error,” said the company.

“Onlookers stood with jaws dropped at the spectacle of the world’s first floating skatepark, as Kriss performed a range of tricks, fighting against a heavily weighted parachute, and the bowl moving and bouncing like never before.”

The skatepark tipped the scales at more than 1,500 kilos but it wasn’t just the weight that posed a problem.

“A rare combination of high atmospheric pressure, cold and dry conditions, along with surface wind speeds of less than 3 mph were needed,” Red Bull added.
