The first radio ratings survey is out for 2018, and the news is not so good for Australian Radio Network’s brekkie and drive teams for KIIS FM in Sydney and Melbourne.

According to GfK (the official provider of radio ratings for Commercial Radio Australia), KIIS FM’s new drive show, Will & Woody, has had a tough start to the ratings season in Melbourne and Sydney, with the losing 2 per cent and 1.7 per cent market share respectively.

Meanwhile, KIIS FM’s Sydney breakfast power couple Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson slipped to third in the ratings with a 2.1 per cent drop to 10 per cent (however, they do remain numero uno in FM).

The news wasn’t much better for KIIS FM’s replacement brekkie show for Matt & Meshel in Melbourne, with Jase & PJ pushing the station’s share down 1.2 per cent to 5.1 per cent.

Elsewhere, Southern Cross Austereo’s 2Day FM has had a solid start to the year in the breakfast slot, with its new-look team of Em Rusciano, Ed Kavalee and Grant Denyer lifting its ratings performance 0.6 per cent to 3.4 per cent.

It comes after SCA chief executive Grant Blackley reiterated the radio network’s commitment to improving the performance of 2Day FM in the brekkie slot.

Here’s a thorough city-by-city breakdown of the ratings…

SYDNEY

Macquarie’s 2GB has recovered the ratings ground it lost in the final survey of 2017, up 0.5 per cent in overall market share to 11.8 per cent, while WSFM has moved into outright second despite a 0.7 per cent drop to 9.0 per cent.

Meanwhile, NOVA Entertainment’s smoothfm (down 0.1 per cent to 8.5 per cent) has bumped ARN’s KIIS 1065 out of the top three.

Breakfast

First: 2GB (up 2.2 per cent to 15.5 per cent)

Second: ABC Sydney (up 0.9 per cent to 10.3 per cent)

Third: KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O (down 2.1 per cent to 10 per cent)

Drive

First: Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty (up 0.2 per cent to 10.5 per cent)

Second: WSFM (up 0.4 per cent to 9.2 per cent)

Third: KIIS 1065’s Will & Woody (down 1.7 per cent per cent to 9.1 per cent)

MELBOURNE

Macquarie’s 3AW saw another decline in overall market share this survey – down 1.8 per cent to 13.2 per cent – but it wasn’t enough for the station to lose top spot.

SCA’s Fox FM surged into second with a 2.4 per cent increase to 10.8 per cent, while NOVA’s smoothfm held firm in third with 10.3 per cent market share (up 2.5 per cent).

KIIS FM’s new Melbourne drive line-up, Will & Woody, had a poor start to the ratings season with a 2 per cent drop to 7.4 per cent, while its fresh brekkie duo Jase & PJ, didn’t fare much better, down 1.2 per cent to 5.1 per cent.

ARN’s 97.3fm has moved up one spot into second with 12.1 per cent (up 1.7 per cent), while while a 1.2 per cent increase to 11.8 per cent wasn’t enough to stop SCA’s Hit105 falling to third.

First: Hit105’s Stav, Abby & Matt (up 1.5 per cent to 12.4 per cent)

Second: Nova 106.9’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy with Susie O’Neill (down 1.9 per cent to 12.2 per cent)
