Pinterest has released new data showcasing what Aussies are searching for online.

With supply chain shortages front-of-mind for shoppers, the key trend this holiday season is that consumers are shopping early.

Holiday searches are already 43x greater and Pinterest has revealed how businesses can reach generations of consumers and create a festive shopping experience that inspires action.

COVID-19 has changed the traditional trip to the city forever, while others fear even those who make the pilgrimage will struggle to find everything on their shopping lists.

With more ways to shop through Creator content, virtually try on makeup, filter searches by skin tone ranges and hair patterns, Pinterest is making shopping more personal and relevant than ever before.

In fact, the number of Pinners engaging with shopping surfaces on Pinterest grew over 200 per cent over the year.

The different generations have had different priorities for the holiday season”

Gen Z

  • A top trending aesthetic among Gen Z for the holiday season is fairy grunge (up 362x).
  • Gen Z are exploring retro looks (Retro 70’s makeup is up 39x).
  • Earthy is the new home decor aesthetic for Gen Z (earthy aesthetic rooms are up 63x).

Millennials

  • Millennials are looking for cosiness and comfort with a stylish twist – with cosy sweater vest dresses (up 14x) trending on the platform.
  • An increasingly trending Millennial beauty look is soft glam makeup (up 41x).
  • With more people investing in a comfortable home space, cosy farmhouse ideas (up 200x) are trending among the Millennials.

Gen X

  • Gen X are particularly looking to splurge on luxury items, with luxury handbags (up 4x) and Men’s luxury watches (up 3x) trending on the platform.
  • Gen X are taking good care of their skin (skin treatments are up 6x) for a natural beauty look.
  • Eclectic colours splashed in minimalist decor are trending among Gen X (eclectic minimalist decor is up 5x).

Baby Boomers

  • Trending styles among Baby Boomers are classy with a bold twist with faux leather skirts (up 5x) and antique gold jewellery (up 12x) trending.
  • From eyebrow makeup tutorials (up 5x) to men’s beard styles (up 3x), grooming and enhancing their natural looks are trending among Baby Boomers.
  • Vintage eclectic styles are trending among Baby Boomers (Vintage eclectic homes are up 59x).

According to Pinterest’s annual Holiday Report, Aussies are also preparing for an expensive Christmas, with shoppers set to spend over $11 billion on gifts.

Searches on Pinterest for luxury handbags have increased by four times, while men’s luxury watches are up three times. Half of the population will prepare to buy their gifts online this year, which spotlights Pinterest as the new shopping destination, after the platform saw a 200 per cent uplift in shopping engagements this year.

Pinterest has recently launched a host of new shopping features, with the intent of creating an inspired ecosystem for shopping that bridges the gap between in-store and online.
