Presenter Te Rauhiringa Brown is facing backlash for using both English and teo reo language for cities during the weather report.
So, for example, she used both names for cities. For example, Kirikiriroa for Hamilton and Ōtautahi for Christchurch. Basically, she’s found a more inclusive way to conduct the weather report.
While so much of the feedback has been positive.
Naturally, some of the internet has taken umbrage with the weather presenter being more inclusive.
People have taken to TVNZ 1’s Facebook group to criticise the incorporation of the Maori language.
One person wrote: “I understand that we could all improve our understanding of te reo … but not on the one TV news at 6 pm. ”
Another wrote, “Never watching tv1 again. Can’t understand Māori language.” This comment makes no sense because the weather report was also done in English.
Still, despite the negative backlash, there’s also been an overwhelming sense of praise for Te Rauhiringa Brown’s weather report.
Te Rauhiringa Brown. She's doing the weather like a boss.

It is simply just very cool to see a weather report done in a more inclusive and thoughtful way.
