NRMA Insurance has taken their longstanding partnership with the NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) to a new level by commissioning an observational documentary (ob-doc) TV series on the Service.

The ob doc will draw attention and recognition to the state’s iconic community service and the volunteers that give their own time, at times risking their lives for their communities.

Storm Season, created and produced by MBA and Deluxe in collaboration with NRMA Insurance, is a first of its kind ob-doc that captures the dramatic work performed by highly trained members of the community that volunteer to be a part of the NSW SES.

The Storm Season series is made up of six 30-minute episodes that will air at 4:30pm on Channel 10 beginning on Saturday 31st October. The episodes will be published online at TENplay and supported by 11 three-minute webisodes and two community service announcements on storm and preparedness.

The series will follow the brave, life-saving actions of NSW SES volunteers as they work in the challenging conditions brought on by severe storms and floods across the state. Viewers are taken behind the scenes to witness the intense and dramatic work they do, bringing to life rescue stories and day to day challenges faced by the volunteers in a year that saw some of the state’s worst weather in years. Although the series focuses on the work of volunteers from NSW, the SES is found in over 1,000 locations nationally, providing meaningful resonance and engagement for viewers regardless of their state or territory.

The series will help viewers understand the risks that come with severe storms and share useful storm preparedness measures to help viewers be safer and reduce property damage. This series aims to increase awareness of the professionalism and high level of skill demonstrated by all SES volunteers across Australia and helping audiences understand the value of insurance as a necessary part of storm preparation.

Jane Merrick, head of marketing at NRMA Insurance said: “NRMA Insurance has been a proud supporter of the NSW SES for the last four years. We’re delighted to create a series highlighting the amazing community spirit demonstrated by NSW SES volunteers, they deserve recognition for their important role in protecting our communities”.

Gemma Hunter, executive creative director & head of MBA said: “With thanks to a great client in NRMA Insurance, it has been an absolute honour and privilege to create a television series that showcases the amazing work of the NSW SES. This 10,000 strong volunteer corps (over 40,000 nationally) helps thousands of Australians on a daily basis who find themselves in floods, storms and other emergencies across the state. Without NRMA Insurance, we wouldn’t have been able to tell these incredible stories.

MBA, as a leader in content strategy, production and distribution, has again brought a brand’s essence and personality to light in a TV and content series that focuses on the amazing Australian spirit.”

Nicola Lewis, national chief investment officer, Mindshare said: “We have enjoyed working with Network Ten and the team at MBA to secure placement of Storm Season and we’re really thrilled to see it go to air”.
