Nine Melbourne managing director Matt Scriven has stepped down from his role at the broadcaster.

He had been in the role eight years, and prior to that had spent six years as Melbourne director of sales.

In an email to all staff, Scriven said the decision to leave was partly due to the “considerable sacrifice and toll at a family level” the role has taken, and that he was both saddened and excited about his decision, which he made late last year.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 years in this role and my previous 6 years in the director of sales Melbourne role. This, combined with a prior 7-year stint culminates in 15 wonderful years with this extraordinary business,” he said.

“As you know, our business has undergone extraordinary transformation and change as we embarked on creating a media business of the future.

“The last 12 months has seen this vision come to life with the successful integration and relocation of The Age and AFR into Docklands to create a new Nine Melbourne. And this will continue to evolve with Nine Radio, following the completion of the acquisition of Macquarie Media, enabling the opportunity for 3AW to relocate and integrate into Nine Melbourne,” Scriven continued.

He added: “The decision to step down from a role I love has not been an easy one to make, but it is the right one, and the right timing for our family. I am going to miss the amazing people that I have had the privilege of leading and working with over the years, but equally I am excited by the opportunity to pause, reassess and pursue other business interests; while ensuring our kids have the support they need through their teenage years.”

Scriven’s last day in the role will be Friday 14 February. It is unclear who will take his place, or where he will head next.
