When we think about the intersection between technology and the media sector, the companies that come to mind are conglomerates such as Facebook, Google and Amazon. But there are also hundreds of smaller businesses that are being led by talented entrepreneurs. That’s why we are running an Entrepreneur/Founder category to launch the inaugural Women Leading Tech awards.

Ally Watson has transformed Code Like a Girl from an idea into an entire movement.

After starting her career as a software engineer, Watson formed the desire to meet like-minded women who code after experiencing the isolation associated with being a woman in a male-dominated industry.

She hosted a casual meetup and was overwhelmed by the response. Watson quickly saw the opportunity to positively impact the lives of many women who code.

What started as supportive networking meet-up quickly grew into an education organisation that is having a measurable impact on tech’s gender imbalance.

The rapid growth of the organisation is greatly attributed to Watson’s authentic vision and contagious passion for the challenge that lies ahead of our industry.

Under Watson’s leadership, Code Like a Girl has has tried a variety of business streams to provide the community it serves with real solutions.

Over recent years it has refined its service offering and caught the attention of industry influencers, managing to grow the brand into a respected leader in tech.
