Mark Latham Launches Super-Strange Ad Campaign To ‘Save Australia Day’

Former federal Labor Party leader Mark Latham is a bit of an oddball in the eyes of B&T, and a new ad campaign he’s launched has only further supported our view.

The ‘Save Australia Day’ campaign is part of Latham’s push to have the anniversary remain on 26 January, opposing those who argue for it to be moved to a date that is less contentious.

The campaign includes TV, radio and social media ads depicting an Orwellian future where families, shoppers and the elderly are all too scared to celebrate Australia Day openly. The campaign also features indigenous Alice Springs councillor Jacinta Price.

The campaign comes after Triple J bowed to public pressure decision and moved its annual radio competition, the Hottest 100, to a day after its traditional airing date of 26 January.

There had been growing protests that the announcement on the 26th was offensive to Aboriginal people who saw Australia Day as a day of invasion.

Triple J’s move prompted a backlash from a chorus of government MPs, including federal Communications Minister Mitch Fifield.
