What do McDonald’s and bees have in common? Not much, but that’s not stopping the global fast-food chain from doing its part to save the world’s declining bee population.
In an attempt to restore the habitats of Swedens’ bee population, McDonald’s has built the world’s smallest restaurant that doubles as a beehive, aptly named the McHive.
The initiative was the brainchild of creative agency Nord DBB Sweden and intimately started with the utilization of McDonald’s restaurants as beehives.
The project will also expand to billboards serving as bee hotels in Järfälla outside of Stockholm. The billboards will have holes integrated into the surface of the advertisements which leads to beehives inside and to the back of the structure.
Watch the spots below to see McDonald’s and Nord DBB are bringing the concepts to life.
