“Listen, I don’t know what a podcast is, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands and a lot to talk about,” explains the legendary newsreader Ron Burgundy on his new podcast. “I am also broke. Therefore, I am very excited to do this podcast. It is literally saving my life.”

Yes, Will Ferrell’s infamous character is back in an exclusive podcast for iHeartMedia, the media firm behind the iHeartRadio podcast radio network.

There are also rumours that Ron’s 12-part podcast series will also act as a promotion for the release of a third instalment of the Anchorman film franchise.

Check out the teaser that recently landed for the series below:

We can’t imagine securing Burgundy came cheap and the series is to be bankrolled by actual advertisers including car subscription app Fair, Safe Auto Insurance and Charmin toilet paper.

Burgundy will also be reading out ads for the brands during the podcast.

On Charmin he said: “I reach for Charmin’s ultrasoft toilet paper because like I tell the ladies I am an ultrasofty and when I get my heart broken, I need something to soak up those tears.”

For Safe, he talks about driving around in an unregistered, uninsured car: “Safe Auto won’t get your car inspected or get you a licence but they will get you insured, which, I guess is something you have to do.”

While Fair cops a roasting for not being able to secure him a 1970 Mercury Cougar. “Don’t Buy a Car, Fair a car, hey it’s a verb,” he declares.

Commenting on the podcast series, president of the iHeartPodcast Network Conal Byrne also played it for laughs: “To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible.

“Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.”

To which Burgundy replied: “By the way, if iHeartRadio says that I harassed them into making a podcast, it is a lie! A baldfaced lie!

“Did I call them one hundred times in one day? Yes! But that’s called persistence! I have filed suit against iHeartRadio for these salacious claims. I will be representing myself legally, since I currently do not have enough money to hire an attorney.”
