Kendall Jenner is new the face of Pepsi, however, her first-up TVC for the soft drink giant has already been labelled as “cringeworthy” and “possibly the worst ad ever”.
The ad features a blonde-wigged Jenner modelling before a photographer as a rowdy street protest strolls on by. Jenner ditches the modelling gig (and the wig) and joins the protest that includes anyone from a multitude of ethnicities, hippies, Muslims, gay and transgender people before confronting an all-male white police line-up. Get the subtle anti-Trump metaphor there?
The ad is set to Skip Marley’s Lions and finishes with the tag “Live Louder”.
Check it out in all its excruciating glory here:
Most people’s rage appears to be around the idea that a can of soft drink can cure the world’s ills, even worse a can of soft drink held by a member of the Kardashian family. Police brutality and police treatment of Afro Americans is also a hot topic in the US at the moment.
Others have pointed out the ad bares an uncomfortable similarity to the famous image of American woman Leshia Evans confronting police during race riots in Louisiana in July 2016. The image went on to win first prize in the World Press Photo Contest.
However, most people just thought the ad was simply embarrassing and awful. Check out some of the social media rage below:
