The new update will split the news feed into two separate segments and will allow greater control over what users want to see on their screen.
Instagram’s latest update, which in Australia is available from today (Thursday), brings big changes to the news feed which, according to the creators of the app itself, have been highly requested by users for a while now.
Pressing on the Instagram logo will show a drop down menu with the options “Following” and “Favourites”, meaning that you can now see on your feed either posts from profiles you are following or from those you have highlighted as your favourites.
Users will be able to add up to 50 favourites to their account and they will appear on their feed in chronological order and not depending on the latest published content, which has been what Instagram usually does ever since its update back in 2016.
We heard you loud and clear — chrono is back! 🚨

Instagram released a statement about the update, in which it pointed out: “You can add up to 50 favourites, and make changes to your list at any time — people are not notified when they are added or removed. Posts from your favourites list will also show up higher in your home feed, as shown by a star icon.”
A future update will see another option added to the drop-down menu, “Home”.
“In addition to your main home feed, we’re launching new options that let people choose to see posts in Feed from their favourite accounts, or from the accounts they follow, in chronological order,” Instagram said.
“We want people to have meaningful control over their experience on Instagram and the content they see.”
