Jillian Davison has been named editor-in-chief of the recently relaunched Harper’s BAZAAR Australia.
She will oversee all content, development and creative direction across the iconic magazine’s digital and brand platforms.
Davison (pictured) succeeds Eugenie Kelly, who recently stepped down to pursue other opportunities. The announcement was made by Maureen Jordan, publisher of Harper’s BAZAAR Australia and Kim St. Clair Bodden, senior vice president, editorial and brand director of Hearst International.
Davison was most recently creative director of Harper’s BAZAAR Australia and played an integral role in the conceptual vision and design of the brand’s 200-page inaugural issue that hit the newsstands last week featuring renaissance woman Nakkiah Lui on its cover stately adorned in Cartier and wearing Prada.
Previously, she was the creative director of Vogue Australia, a position she held for three years.
“Jillian’s fresh and innovative approach to style and culture will surely take Harper’s BAZAAR Australia to new heights of success in a market she knows so well. We could not be more excited to have her lead this venerable brand,” said St. Clair Bodden.
“We thank Eugenie for her dedication and contributions to the successful relaunch of Harper’s BAZAAR in in the Australian market and wish her the very best with her future endeavors.”
Jordan said, “to launch a magazine during COVID was not without its challenges but we are incredibly excited about the future and plans are already underway to build a strong team under Jillian’s guidance. Not only does Jillian have extraordinary creative talent and vision, I have seen the respect she receives from all those around her, whether that be writers, models, photographers or advertisers, to name a but a few.”
Davison said: “It is such an honour to be at the helm of this iconic title and for the opportunity to infuse Harper’s BAZAAR with a truly modern approach to fashion and style that embodies elegance and energy. I am excited to create a hub of creativity that will allow for the most inspired image making and storytelling – the BAZAAR reader should expect the unexpected!”
Davison brings an unprecedented breadth of international experience and knowledge in this country to her new role at BAZAAR. Her career has seen her working extensively in Sydney and New York producing some of the world’s most memorable fashion imagery.
Davison spent the early 2000’s as a fashion editor at US Harper’s BAZAAR, during which time she gained a deep understanding of the brand. Before joining Vogue Australia in 2018, she held a variety of editorial positions, including fashion director of Glamour US and fashion editor of Teen Vogue US.
Jordan confirmed that further key editorial appointments would be made in the coming weeks.
