Rebel Wilson has broken her silence about Nine’s gossip columnist Andrew Hornery wanting to write an article about her sexuality.
If you missed it, Hornery writes a gossip column for The Sydney Morning Herald. He reached out to Wilson for comment on her sexuality and gave her two days to reply before he planned to write an article about her dating a woman, effectively ‘outing,’ her.
But Wilson beat him to the punch and announced via Instagram that she was dating a woman.
Hornery wasn’t pleased and complained that she’d “gazumped” him in his weekly gossip column.
Naturally, the internet went into overdrive. Important conversations erupted about how unethical it is to “out” celebrities, and Hornery was criticised for thinking he somehow had ownership of a story that wasn’t about him.
So apparently it wasn't @RebelWilson's choice to come out… The @smh/@theage have admitted to giving her a heads up 2 days in advance that they were going to "out" her. What's worse, openly gay men at the Sydney Morning Herald were involved in this. 🤦🏼♀️ https://t.co/Zl80zg01SW

It was complete chaos.
SMH apologised, and Hornery apologised, but Wilson stayed quiet.
However, The Australian has now reported that Wilson has broken her silence. The masthead reported that she said: “I just thought it was kind of grubby behaviour.
“Basically, with the situation where a journalist is threatening to out you, you’ve got to hurry, and some people we didn’t get a chance to tell before it came out publicly. And that’s not ideal.
“I didn’t think it was that big of a deal and that we should kind of be forced to make an announcement about it. But that’s what happened.”
