A marketing push from NRL franchise the Gold Coast Titans has severely backfired.
With the NRL season fast approaching, the Titans took to social media to make a last-minute push for members.
The franchise shared a video, originally posted on fullback AJ Brimson’s Instagram page, of the star player dancing to the tune of DaBaby’s song ‘Suge’.
However, the lyrics accompanying Brimson’s dancing featured the ‘N-word’ a total of six times in the short video.
“AJ is ready for 2020!” the Titans said in the Twitter post resharing Brimson’s video. “You should be too! Become a Member today.”
Twitter users were quick to point out issue however.
“Rethink that choice of music if you want me to re-sign,” said one.
“Yikes! Personally don’t see it as a huge deal. But it’s very questionable from a organisation social account.” said another.
“It’s just a shit attempt at advertising,” someone else responded.
The Titans have since deleted the post, however, the original video is still on Brimson’s Instagram page at the time of publication.
