Australian Zoomers are leading the charge in new ways of shopping, according to data from Afterpay.
The buy-now-pay-later service surveyed more than 1,000 adults from around Australia and found that Gen Z are the most likely to find shopping inspiration on social media (53 per cent) with 72 per cent citing Instagram as their most-used app. More than 40 per cent of Gen Z are willing to purchase something based on the recommendation of an influencer.
More than half (53 per cent) of Zoomers believe that the metaverse will be part of their everyday life within the next decade, compared to 59 per cent of millennials and 45 per cent of Gen X and older.
29 per cent of Australians have voice shopped, via Amazon’s Alexa, for example, in the last year. However, 45 per cent of Gen Z have chosen to shop with their voice.
What’s more, nearly 60 per cent of Zoomers say that they shop sustainably compared to 55 per cent of all Australians.
In the last year, 20 per cent of all Aussies said that they stopped buying from a brand that did not meet their sustainability standards. However, one-third of Gen Z have abandoned brands that they deem unsustainable. Almost two-thirds of Zoomers, meanwhile, said that they would likely return to a brand that had fixed its sustainability issues.
Australians of all ages value loyalty, as well. 72 per cent will return to a brand with good discounts and sales, 57 per cent will shop somewhere that allow online purchases to be returned in-store, and 54 per cent value brands that protect personal data. 45 per cent of Zoomers, meanwhile, said that being a small business works as a loyalty factor.
