Kayo Sports is set to redefine the cricket broadcast experience this summer with a new suite of cutting-edge on-screen innovations that will give audiences unprecedented clarity, insight, and excitement across broadcast and streaming platforms.

Set to be unveiled as part of the Australia-India Test series, which kicks off on Friday 22 November in 4K ultra high definition, the innovations join the addition of a Hindi feed on Kayo Sports, bringing greater diversity and insight for India fans.

The technologies, which are a first in cricket broadcasting, will capture every boundary, wicket, and nail-biting moment at different angles, more deeply immersing viewers in the action and providing a richer viewing experience.

They include:

  • HyperLayer: unleashing the power of AI on cricket broadcasting – Setting a new standard with AI technology is HyperLayer, a cloud-based sports data and technology platform developed by Virtual Eye. Unlike traditional ball speed measurements, HyperLayer uses six cameras tracking at 250 frames per second to capture every phase of the ball’s journey—from bowler to pitch to batter. Across an estimated 540 deliveries each day of Test cricket, the setup produces 810,000 frames of data daily, unlocking unprecedented levels of detail and analytical depth, not just for the current season but also with historical data.
  • The Emperor: a 600 frame-per-second ultra motion camera – This next-generation camera is at the core of Fox Cricket’s ball tracking, player tracking, pose estimation and replay systems. Capable of frame rates upwards of 600 FPS in real time; nothing will get missed. Designed specifically as an edge-ready camera, The Emperor integrates seamlessly with all HyperLayer services.
  • 4D replays: cricket like never before – Already seen in Major League Baseball, the NFL and the Olympic Games, 4D replays are making their cricket debut. Powered by a network of 100 cameras around the stadium, these real-time, 360-degree replays give viewers unparalleled perspective of the game’s most thrilling moments. Through a new companion device on the Kayo Sports platform, subscribers can explore and interact with these 4D replays on additional screens, offering a dynamic second-screen experience that redefines viewer engagement.

“We can’t wait for the Australia-India Test to kick off. As the top two teams in Test Cricket, it is set to be a great contest and audiences can expect more analysis, more innovation and more action from the series on Fox Cricket,” said Fox Sports managing director Steve Crawley.

“A world-class commentary team, game changing tech – this ‘Summer of Cricket’ is set to be our biggest one yet”.

For the first time, Fox Cricket is also managing broadcast graphics production in-house. Using the deep expertise of Fox Sports’ graphics department, this shift will ensure a high standard of production and allow for increased customisation.

Every ball of the Border-Gavaskar Test series will be available live and in ultra high-definition 4K on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

The announcements come as Fox Cricket held its Big Hit fan event in Melbourne at which hundreds descended upon Federation Square to meet Fox Cricket commentary legends and experts of the game including Allan Border, Brett Lee, Harsha Bogle, Ravi Shastri, David Warner and Michael Vaughan.
