Venerable broadcaster the BBC has again been sent into damage control mode after one of its reporters mistook Bill Cosby for Bill Clinton during a live TV cross.
BBC journalist Michelle Fleury was broadcasting live from Philadelphia yesterday after the 83-year-old actor Bill Cosby had his conviction for sexual assault overturned, releasing him two years into a 10 year gaol sentence.
However, in racing to do her live report, Fleury muddled the names of the disgraced actor with the disgraced former President. Check out the blunder below:
Thankfully, the report’s anchor, Huw Edwards, managed to save the day, later informing viewers there’d been a mix-up between the Cosby Show star and the 42nd president of the USA.
Huw later adding: “Just to clarify what was said there in Michelle’s introduction to the story when she mistakenly said Bill Clinton instead of Bill Cosby. We apologise for the mistake the story is of course about Bill Cosby the entertainer.”
In a statement after his release, Cosby tweeted: “I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence.
“Thank you to all my fans, supporters and friends who stood by me through this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law,” the tweet read.
