Ex-Subway Guy Jared Fogle Sentenced To 15 Years And 8 Months For Child Sex Abuse

Ex-Subway Guy Jared Fogle Sentenced To 15 Years And 8 Months For Child Sex Abuse

Former Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle has been charged with 15-year sentence after pleading guilty of possession and distribution of child pornography and paying for sex with two minors.

Fogle obtained and viewed child pornography given to him by his co-conspirator, Russell Taylor, which included homemade material involving victims in Indiana. Court documents identified 12 victims of child pornography in Indiana, along with two teenage victims of child prostitution in New York.

Fogle appeared in Subway ads from 2000 after he claimed to have lost 90 kilograms by eating Subway sandwiches. Subway has since distanced itself from Fogle from its decade-long spokesperson.

US District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt announced Fogle’s sentence in federal court in Indianapolis. Fogle pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and traveling across state lines to have sex with two minors, one 16 and the other 17 at the time.

During the sentencing hearing, forensic psychiatrist John Bradford claimed that Fogle’s had an alcohol problem and compulsive eating disorder which progressed into ‘hypersexuality’ after he lost all his weight from his Subway diet. Fogle’s defence attorney Jeremy Margolis said: “He traded a horrible food addiction for a horrible sex addiction.”

Judge Pratt described Fogle, 38, as having had a privileged upbringing before becoming “obsessed” with sex and minors. “Federal judges do not sentence based on emotion or public sentiment,” Pratt said. She added, “The level of perversion and lawlessness exhibited by Mr. Fogle is extreme.”

Fogle was sentenced to 15 years, eight months in prison. He will also have to pay $1.4 million in restitution to his 14 victims.
