Sandwich chain Subway is reportedly set to begin a large brand overhaul mid-2016, and so to save Subway thousands of dollars in logo design, DesignCrowd put a brief out to its hoard of designers to have a crack at re-imagining what a logo could look like.

At the end of August, after news emerged long-time Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle was involved in underage sexual acts, the New York Post reported the food chain was having a major facelift, the first in seven years.

The facelift, reports the New York Post, was due to slumping sales, with the hope a rebrand could boost sales of the sandwiches.

Design crowdsourcing site DesignCrowd pulled in a heap of potential logos the brand could opt for.

The brief stated:

  • Your design should reflect Subway’s desire to modernise its look and offering and consumers.
  • Design submissions that refer to recent controversy in the media will be eliminated.
  • Produce original designs that show creative thinking and fit the brief to bring the brand into the 21st Century.
