Global digital merchandising technology company Coates Group has been named a global partner to quick service restaurant, McDonald’s.

The relationship between Coates and McDonald’s, which currently spans 50 years, is set to continue thanks to the recent announcement which is the largest global agreement between the two companies to date.

Coates was recently named McDonald’s official global Digital Menu Board (DMB) Content Management System (CMS) provider and one of two official DMB hardware providers.

The partnership between the family-owned and Sydney-based Coates Group and McDonald’s kicked off in 1972, only a few years after the now-giant QSR business began operating in Australia. The initial agreement was primarily based on signage and merchandising solutions but expanded through the 70s and 80s.

In 2008, under the new leadership of Alan’s son, Leo Coates, Coates Group evolved into a global digital experience company, in recognition of the changing of the market and surge towards the digital marketplace.

Leo Coates, CEO of Coates Group, said: “We knew significant change was ahead within the QSR category, across all markets, and we knew that our ability to innovate our solutions into the digital space would define the future of the business. The forward-thinking work of our teams during this chapter was pivotal in our evolution. We were able to position ourselves as industry leaders and to prove our value as innovative partners that could keep our customers in front of the changing landscape.

“This appetite for innovation and strategic partnership has been integral to our success in the Australian market and our subsequent growth in the global arena, including our newest partnership engagement with McDonald’s.”

Headquartered in Sydney, Australia with eight additional offices around the world (Chicago, Toronto, Paris, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Mumbai, Dubai, and Guangzhou) and supporting 50+ global markets, Coates Group is best known today for the innovative technology, digital and traditional signage solutions it provides to leading QSR and petrol brands including McDonald’s, Ampol and more.

In 2020, Ampol Australia selected Coates as the signage provider of choice to support its nationwide rebrand, which is ongoing today.
