Carrie Bickmore Lambasted For Plugging Cancer Appeal On Ten’s The Project

The Project co-host Carrie Bickmore has copped a flogging on social media overnight for promoting her brain cancer appeal that is strikingly similar to a fundraiser held yesterday for motor neurone disease.

Bickmore used last night’s episode of Ten’s The Project to plug her Carries Beanies 4 Brain Cancer appeal, with co-hosts Waleed Aly, Gretel Killeen and Tommy Little all donning beanies on camera to help promote the cause.

Tonight, new @carriesB4BC beanies go on sale! Head to https://t.co/QNTq8qlMY8 from 6:30pm (AEST) to pick yours up! #TheProjectTV pic.twitter.com/OE7v6mztkv

However, Bickmore’s timing of the appeal launch happened to coincide with the Big Freeze annual fundraiser at the MCG, which sells blue beanies to support research into motor neurone disease.

The Big Freeze, which is put on by Fight MND, also involved ‘freezing’ Aussie celebrities by making them slide into a pool of ice in front of the crowd at the MCG who were there to watch the Melbourne Demons take on the Collingwood Magpies in the AFL.

People who tuned into The Project last night were quick to call out the show and Bickmore for “ambushing” the Big Freeze and “pushing their own agenda”.

#TheProjectTV I reckon you had 75 other nights to wear your beanies! Wtf! Carrie, don’t get Waleeds arrogance! Your cause is worthwhile

Absurd, but not unusual to see @theprojecttv push their own agenda… why run this story today of all days? #FightMND https://t.co/i4hiLJkbTd

Actually so disappointed in #TheProjectTV hosts wearing beanies that aren’t #freezemnd beanies I refuse to watch any more tonight

— Wotyagunnado (@ScottyPeters1) June 12, 2017

Back in my day we would all stick together and support each other tonight the @theprojecttv has ambushed the beanie day of THE BIG FREEZE

Admire Carrie’s  work for brain cancer…but today was really Neal Daniher’s Freeze MND day. Odd to do it on the same day. #TheProjectTV
