Velvet Onion Academy: The New Digital Design School On The Block

Velvet Onion Academy is a new training space that specialises in teaching digital design disciplines.

Launching in Surry Hills during first week of December, the initial focus of the school will be on user experience design and accelerated design thinking.

With a chronic shortage of user experience (UX) design professionals and thinkers, Velvet Onion Academy (VOA) wants to help shape and create the next wave of digital UX talent.

A team of designers, led by 15 year veteran user experience designer, Charbel Zeaiter has come together to create training programs, with courses including Mumpreneurs, a course aimed at women who are ready to return to work and/or leave the workforce to start their own digital business

The user experience design modules are focused on providing essential UXD skills such as accelerated ideation techniques, persuasive design, the creation of UXD artefacts and a lot more. At the end of the program, every member of the team will receive a reference handbook and some highly regarded reference books that will continue to guide students’ digital career evolution.

“Our Design Team undertook UXD training with Velvet Onion. It was a great, engaging and profitable experience. We now approach our digital designs with more structure and confidence,” said Laura Terry, head of commercial at experiential marketing agency, Play Communications.
