ARN’s Mitch Churi Is Gearing Up To Become The More Wholesome Sandilands

ARN’s Mitch Churi is the next generation of radio talent that is already on the airwaves now, so why isn’t he everywhere? Well, he is about to be.

Churi is what you’d call a veteran of radio, and he hasn’t even turned 30 yet. He’s the kind of guy that will host everything from The ARIA Awards to the Podcast Awards and back it up to do his daily night radio show, and his finally seeing the fact he has been everywhere paying off.

The camp boy from Cronulla has been slogging it out at ARN for half a decade. Slowly but surely making a name for himself and building a dedicated fanbase. Plus, he has a successful podcast, A Couple Of Mitches, that he hosts with comedic talent and former co-worker Mitchell Coombs.

It also doesn’t hurt that he has bagged some celebrity friends along the way. Churi counts Abbie Chatfield and Laura Bryne as close friends, yes, not just mutual Instagram followers.

While ARN’s also the home of Sandilands, who is known for being controversial clickbait, Churi offers listeners a more wholesome option. He’s an openly queer voice in radio, and his radio show feels more like a phone call with your best mate. Churi would easily be the comfort food version of radio.

Currently, Churi is gearing up to be the soundtrack of our summers. The microphone fiend has bagged a summer gig on ARN with Life Uncut‘s Brittany Hockley and Phil from Human Nature.

Usually, Churi bags these gigs and carries them by himself, but this time he has friends with him.  For Churi, it is just another chance to entertain, and he has never passed up an opportunity to get his voice on the radio.

Churi is also excited about the line-up. He told B&T, “It’ll be the three of us, it is an interesting trio, but I’m very excited. The dynamic is fantastic. The chemistry test we did showed that we work well together!”

While Hockley makes sense, the two are famously best friends, Phil is the wild card, but Churi says he is the balance the two need.

Churi joked: “The show needed some damn masculinity, so we added in a boy-band member!”

He also has high hopes for the summer programme that will play throughout the survey break. This means there will be less pressure and more room for fun and to try things out.

He said: “I’m hoping it is a soundtrack for summer. Everyone has had a long year and a weird vibe year.

“I really want people to hear some fun. My night show is so much fun, and I’m pumped to bring that to the breakfast time slot!”

While Churi’s aware nothing can quite replace Sandilands on-air musings, he isn’t too intimidated to try.  “Nothing can fill the Kyle and Jackie O void, but we will give it our best show!”

Churi’s excitement does beg the question. Is he looking to get off nights and set his alarm clock to the A.M. Well, yes.

Churi said: “Breakfast is the ultimate goal, and I’d love to do a solo breakfast host format. It’s a very popular format internationally, but we just haven’t done it much here besides Christian O’Connell in Melbourne! I reckon I could pioner that in NSW!”
