After 70 Years On Air, World’s Oldest Radio DJ Retires

96 year old Hong Kong-based DJ Ray Cordeiro has retired after 70 years on the air.

On Saturday night, Cordeiro ended his show All The Way With Ray, which has aired on RTHK, Hong Kong’s public broadcaster, since 1970.

His final words on the show were, “well, that’s it. Thank you very much for tuning in, goodbye, thank you for coming.”

In the year 2000, the Guinness Book of World Records named him ‘The World’s Most Durable DJ’.

he began his broadcast career at age 25, when he worked as a script writer on Radio Redfusion.

Over the course of his career, he interviewed musicians such as the Beatles, Cliff Richard and Tony Bennett.

In 1987, Queen Elizabeth II awarded him an MBE.

Cordeiro described himself as the “luckiest man in the world” in a recent interview with RTHK.

He said, “to do what I want to do, to love what I want to love, and I don’t think I have any regrets.”
