Fairfax’s AFR Forms Content-Sharing Partnership With Chinese News Outlet

The Australian Financial Review has announced it has struck a content-sharing partnership with Chinese business and finance news outlet Caixin.

Under the partnership, the Fairfax Media-owned publication and Caixin will run a selection of stories from each other.

Caixin founder and publisher Hu Shuli said: “With rising global interest in China, we are bringing our original, investigative journalism to international readers through enhanced English language offerings, as well as building collaborations with international partners in key markets to provide Chinese readers with high quality reporting and fresh perspectives.

“The tie-up with the highly respected Australian Financial Review is an important step in this endeavour.”

AFR editor-in-chief Michael Stutchbury said: “The Financial Review is delighted to be able to bring Caixin’s unique brand of investigative business and financial journalism to Australian business readers at a time when China’s economic development is entering a new phase, and amid the challenges to the global trading system.

“It is an honour to work with Hu Shuli and her team on this partnership.”

“An opinion article we published just last week from Hu Shuli highlights how Caixin provides a business-based voice for economic openness in China comparable to the Financial Review’s policy agenda for Australia over the past six decades.”

Caixin is the latest publication to strike a content-sharing partnership with the AFR. The Financial Times, the New York Times, The Washington Post and The Daily Telegraph in London all have syndication agreements with the Fairfax masthead.
