Social Needia: an epidemic gone viral

Do you get anxious when nobody comments on your Facebook status updates? Wake up in the middle of the night to Tweet? Believe all feelings can be expressed through emoticons? Instagram your food before eating it? Or are you convinced that hashtags make everything cooler?

Then the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) has the therapy session, sorry show, for you.

Melbourne-based journalist, photographer, social media addict and pop culture junkie Jordana Borensztajn’s first ever MICF show Social Needia explores her addiction to, and obsession with, social media and technology, plus an array of other neuroses that all tie into this fixation.

"My biggest flaws in life are my greatest assets in comedy," she says. “As long as I'm doing stand up, I won’t need to start therapy.”

In Social Needia: The Epidemic, Jordana draws attention to the idea that while so many of us always feel 'switched on' because of technology and social media, in many ways we're more disconnected than we've ever been.

Details of her shows are available from the MICF website.
