LivingSocial leverages database for QLD flood campaign

LivingSocial has launched a campaign drive to help Foodbank Queensland raise vital supplies for people hit by last month’s flooding.

The group buying giant is leveraging its database to send out messages alongside its daily deals updates urging subscribers to give donations, and is covering the administrative costs of the effort as well.

The charity says it is desperately short of suppies for those affected by the flooding, and needs the donations urgently.

General manager Ken MacMillan said: “The Queensland floods have put significant extra demand on our resources and we’re running out of food.

“We assist over 300 local community groups and welfare agencies across Queensland with supplies. Normally that’s around 100,000 people per week, but judging by the floods of 2011 we’re likely to need assistance for more than 170,000. Without Foodbank Queensland’s resources people could go hungry.”

Adam Rigby, executive general manager of LivingSocial, said: “When we saw Foodbank Queensland’s plea on behalf of flood victims we knew we had to help. Group buying’s strength has always been about harnessing collective power.

“We have the scale to reach out to millions of Australian’s with direct and targeted communications.  We will be encouraging our members to assist Foodbank Queensland with a cash donation to help them carry out their work in Queensland.”
