The Speaker’s resignation reflects a government that is in chaos. The Govt has lost its way, lost its majority and now lost its speaker.
— Tony Abbott (@TonyAbbottMHR) November 24, 2011
Back in 2011 Abbott attacked the then-Labor government over the resignation of then-Speaker Harry Jenkins. It’s come back to bite Abbott since the resignation of Abbott’s speaker and mentor Bronwyn Bishop. The 2011 tweet has become one of Abbott’s most popular tweets.
Iggy was set to perform at a Pittsburgh Gay Pride event before someone found these racists and homophobic tweets from back in 2012. The tweets have since been deleted, Iggy cancelled her scheduled appearance and apologised for the tweets:
“I am a firm believer in equality. Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want is for something so carelessly said to be interpreted as reflective of my character. I meant no harm and deeply regret ever uttering those words,” Iggy posted in response to the controversy.
The new host to succeed Jon Stewart of the satirical news The Daily Show came under fire after a bunch of anti-Semitic and sexist tweets from back in 2011/2012 came to light.
