It’s Christmas time for the kids that used to bully you in high school but are now socially and culturally enlightened by contrived, synth-based trip hop and Instagram infographics.

That’s right, kids, the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown is just days away from crowning a winner that everyone saw coming.

And to build more excitement, Australia’s largest youth-based radio station has announced some very interesting stats ahead of the beloved music democracy:

  • More than 2.5 million votes were submitted this year
  • 25 artists will be making their Hottest 100 debut
  • 8 songs in the countdown were uploaded to triple j Unearthed this year
  • Potty mouth alert: there will be 102 f-bombs across the countdown, which is as many as the last two countdowns combined
  • August was, ironically, the “Hottest” month, with the highest number of entries
  • Three artists will join the 15-Songs-Or-Over Club across all Hottest 100 annual countdowns

Tomorrow from 10am local time, triple J will be counting down the tracks that just missed out, from 200 to 101.

And then it’s time for triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown, with the big kahuna set to air from 12pm AEDT on Saturday.

The countdown will be broadcast across FM radio, digital radio, and triple J’s website, and will also be available on the station’s official smartphone app.

And don’t forget, for those of you who don’t listen to children’s music or aren’t currently grappling with a state of arrested development, Double J will be replaying the 2001 triple J Hottest 100 on Sunday 23 January.
