Tony Hale Appointed CEO Of The Communications Council

Tony Hale, previously CEO of The Newspaper Works, has been appointed CEO of The Communications Council, Australia’s peak industry body representing marketing communications agencies.

After an extensive, broad reaching search and much interest from a diverse range of candidates, the Board has unanimously agreed that Tony was the standout candidate to take the organisation forward. Future plans for The Communications Council include international partnerships with the IPA and D&AD, the invigoration of our professional development program with international IPA qualifications, the Economic Value of the Industry study, and kicking off 2015 with a Leadership forum with Dan Wieden.

Taking on the role from Margaret Zabel who announced a move to McDonald’s senior marketing team in October, Hale brings a wealth of experience in Australia’s marketing, media and advertising industry, with grounding in both agency and industry body leadership.

Before taking on his most recent role as CEO of The Newspaper Works from 2006 – 2013, Hale’s career has included senior roles at Clemenger BBDO and The Campaign Palace.

Sudeep Gohil, chair of The Communications Council, said: “On behalf of the national board and our members, I am delighted to welcome Tony as The Communications Council’s new CEO. Tony brings a wealth of experience and a rounded understanding of our industry, which is needed to take The Communications Council into its next chapter.”

Hale said: “This is a great opportunity and an exciting time to be in this role. Next year we will continue the progressive work that has begun to promote the value of agencies to clients, industry and government, with a focus on the economic contribution made by the industry. It is important that we act in a positive and confident way. I look forward to meeting with our members in the New Year.”

Tony starts immediately to facilitate a handover with Zabel.
