Thinkerbell has launched a surf competition like no other, the inaugural Jetstar Classic. Dubbed the world’s most amateur surf competition, the event saw three of Australia’s least skilled surfers battling it out on the iconic shores of the Gold Coast.
Jetstar put the call out far and wide across Australia, not for the pros, but for those who couldn’t surf — or had never even stepped foot in the ocean. The result? Three everyday Aussies, selected from a diverse group of hopefuls nationwide, were flown to the Gold Coast by Jetstar for the competition of a lifetime.
The event wasn’t about catching the biggest waves but having a laugh and capturing the true spirit of Australia’s love for the beach – even if you’ve got no idea how to navigate it.
Under the watchful eyes of professional surfers Vaughan Blakey and Jesse Starling, the three surfing novices took to the waves for the first time, giving their all in the hopes of winning the grand prize: a trip to the home of surfing, Hawaii.
“The Jetstar Classic was a celebration of having a go and enjoying the ride, no matter your skill level. With the lowest airfares and incredible destinations, Jetstar has made it easier than ever to pack your bags and get outta here,” said Belle Thompson, head thinker at Thinkerbell.
As the waves crashed and the judges deliberated, one contestant emerged victorious, securing a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Hawaii, where they’ll swap the Gold Coast’s gentle breaks for the legendary surf spots of Oahu.
