The curtain has been raised on the top 100 2015 BRW Young Rich List, which tracks the wealth of the richest Aussies aged 40 and under.

But these aren’t just young hooligans cashing in from inheritance or mooching off their parents. This list looks at the self-made rich kids – as if we don’t already feel bad enough about our life achievements at B&T.

At number four and five, we’ve got Dave Greiner and Ben Richardson ($500 million) from Sydney company Campaign Monitors, and at number 43 and 44, Appster co-founders and owners Josiah Humphrey and Mark McDonald, who are 24 and 23 respectively, the youngest debutants to make it on the list.

Number nine is technology entrepreneur Simon Clausen, with wealth of $391 million. Clausen sold his PC Tools for about $300 million in 2008 and now invests in start-ups.

Technology is the dominant sector with 28 people on the list, although property is the highest by average with $191 million wealth for each of the 10 real estate developers on the list.

There are eight  women on the 2015 BRW Young Rich List, two more than last year.

In the women’s category, James Packer’s ex-wife Erica Baxter came in first at number 31, with a kitty of $78 million. Joining her in the top five was Melanie Perkins (41) with $60 million, Michelle Strode (46) with $55 million, Erin Deering (66) scoring $36 million and another ex of Packer, Miranda Kerr (79) who clocked up $29 million.

Atlassian co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar top the list with combined wealth of $2.3 billion, up from $2.3 million a year ago.

Their software company Atlassian is valued at more than $3 billion and is actively looking at a stockmarket listing in the United States.
